Thank you for your letter of 18 March to MP for North Devon which was copied to the Department for Communities and Local Government. I have been asked to reply and I apologise for the delay in doing so.
Local Authorities and their elected councillors have a very important role to plan in the planning system and Parliament has entrusted them with the responsibility for day to day planning control in their areas.
Where poor performance is critical or long standing Central Government retains its powers to intervene/
